Purpose of the Role:
The Commercial Director is a key member of the leadership team, whose primary responsibility is to drive sales and profit through strategic and tactical planning, management and implementation of the product category management processes to achieve company targets/budgets.
In addition the role holder will take personal accountability and provide leadership and strategic direction in commercial functions - specifically: Category Management, Product Development, Buying and Customer Marketing.
The Commercial Director will work closely with all business units across the Group to develop and leverage a joint proposition to maximise opportunities across all healthcare settings.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
As a member of the Leadership team responsible for overall strategy, budgets, business performance and governance.
Through leadership of the category management department, execute an effective category management process and segmentation strategy which will deliver category growth.
Leadership of the marketing department, developing an annual category and customer marketing campaign calendar, and turn this into effective monthly campaigns that deliver growth.
Lead and drive the day to day cross-functional category team (sales, buying, category management, finance, operations) responsible for delivering these category plans.
Identify opportunities for sales and profit growth through new product development and innovation.
Develop a Content First platform that delivers market leading online product content and merchandising.
Create and foster strong top-to-top supplier relationships and ensure joint business plans are in place with key partners.
Deliver best commercial terms through maximising supplier income and drive down the cost of goods.
Utilise the performance management system for team members through monthly 1:1 meetings and appraisals.
Motivate, mentor and support members of your team to facilitate their development.
Continual focus on innovation advancements that strengthen our competitive position.
Key Performance Measurements:
Delivery of Category annual Gross Profit budgets.
Category planning documents refreshed annually.
Joint business plans (JBPs) agreed and reviewing with strategic suppliers annually.
Continuous improvement in the reduction of COGs with supplier partners.
Delivery of supplier income budgets.
Annual marketing plan and effective execution.
Delivery of company working capital targets.
