Role Description
Exciting opportunity within a specialist data centre design team in Frankfurt
Role: Electrical Engineer
Sector: Engineering consultancy – Data Centres and Critical Systems
Package: Negotiable competitive salary and benefits package
Territory/Location: Frankfurt, Germany
Role type: Electrical Engineer, Electrical Design Engineer, Senior Building Services Engineer, Electrical Engineering Consultant
Exciting new opportunity for an experienced, client-focused electrical consulting engineer to join a dedicated data centre team. You will take a hands-on role in the design and delivery of regional and global data centre projects, developing electrical design solutions and working directly with clients and colleagues across multiple engineering disciplines.
Reporting to an Associate, you will manage engineering projects and the day-to-day activities, helping to deliver technically sound work within agreed timescales and budgets.
Previous data centre experience is not essential. Engineers with strong electrical design and consultancy experience from other highly technical environments will be supported through a structured DC101 training programme and mentoring from specialist data centre designers.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage engineering projects, coordinating resources and activities to meet agreed programme and budget targets.
Develop electrical designs, including schematic diagrams, layouts, technical calculations, fault studies and discrimination studies, using appropriate engineering software.
Prepare technical specifications, equipment schedules, project reports and supporting documentation in accordance with client briefs.
Coordinate detailed electrical designs with other engineering disciplines, specialist consultants and project stakeholders.
Supervise the production of technical drawings and check calculations, specifications, drawings and reports prepared by less experienced colleagues in line with quality procedures.
Undertake site inspections and surveys to inform design development and monitor works against the design specification, raising issues with the relevant contractor, client or project manager.
Attend client and internal and external project meetings, providing electrical expertise and resolving technical queries with clients, contractors, architects and manufacturers.
Monitor project progress and financial performance, report regularly to the relevant Associate and escalate emerging issues.
Collaborate with regional and international colleagues to deliver coordinated electrical design packages and resolve project challenges.
Comply with project management, quality assurance, environmental and health and safety procedures, and maintain your own continuing professional development.
The Client
The client is a global, independent, multidisciplinary engineering consultancy delivering sustainable design solutions across the built environment. It is entirely partner-owned and has more than 1,200 engineers and designers across 29 locations. Its dedicated data centre team was established in 2006 and has delivered more than 2,000MW of capacity worldwide.
The business was named Building Magazine Engineering Consultant of the Year in 2024, 2022 and 2021, and Data Centre Review Data Centre Consultancy of the Year in 2025. Its focus is on resilient, low-carbon engineering and collaborative project delivery.
Qualifications
Bachelor degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related technical discipline.
Chartered status or progress towards professional recognition is welcomed, with support available for further development.
Experience Required
Proven electrical design and consulting engineering experience, ideally gained in a highly technical project environment.
Technical competence in producing and reviewing engineering designs, calculations, specifications and reports.
Ability to plan and organise your own workload and coordinate the work of others to meet project deadlines and budgets.
Experience of multidisciplinary coordination and effective communication with clients and other project stakeholders.
A proactive approach to problem-solving, with initiative, sound judgement and the ability to respond constructively to pressure and setbacks.
A collaborative working style, clear written reporting skills and a commitment to quality, integrity and continuing professional development.
Desirable
Previous data centre experience, although this is not a requirement. Relevant experience from other highly technical environments and the ability to transfer those skills into data centre design are valued.
Training and Development
The DC101 programme provides in-depth technical training alongside live project work, supported by specialist designers and mentors. The role offers scope to develop data centre expertise, progress towards Chartership where appropriate and contribute to the development of junior colleagues.
